Wellness Evaluation of Lifestyle (WEL)

To begin, the Wellness Evaluation of Lifestyle (WEL) is a wellness assessment tool. The Wellness Evaluation of Lifestyle was designed to help individuals make healthy lifestyle choices. It is based on their responses to specific life tasks and subtasks.  Created by Jane E. Myers, Thomas J. Sweeney, and Melvin Witmer. 

So, the primary purpose of the WEL is to assist individuals in making informed decisions about their lifestyles to promote overall well-being. The WEL is grounded in the concept of wellness, which encompasses various life tasks and interactions.  Essentially, the WEL assesses five core life tasks: spirituality, self-direction, work & leisure, friendship, and love. These life tasks are considered essential elements of overall wellness.  The assessment consists of 131 items, which are presented as self-statements.  The WEL can be used as a counseling tool to help individuals develop and maintain healthy lifestyles. It promotes overall well-being across the lifespan, quality of life, and longevity.  The assessment recognizes

Much like the Wheel of Wellness, a wellness checklist has different segments that correspond to different dimensions of wellness.  However, unlike the Wheel of Wellness, the wellness checklist we use includes a segment to assess your quality of life.  In fact, assessing quality of life involves considering various dimensions and understanding how they interact to shape an individual’s overall sense of well-being. It is a subjective and individualized concept, and different people may prioritize different aspects based on their values, preferences, and life circumstances.  Additionally, cultural and societal factors can influence perceptions of quality of life.
